Why We Do What We Do ...

Every felt like you are just going through the motions ... day to day work ... the monotony of life ... the routine of it all ...

Sometimes it's so very healthy to step back from it all - to disengage for a time - and ask questions ... to reflect on answers ... to rest ...

Sometimes it is good explore 'why we do what we do' ...

This is the topic we were exploring yesterday at the monthly get-together with all the Saskatoon youth pastors. I'd love you're 2 cents on it all ...

=======

In the book of Acts, chapter 17, Paul speaks to the gathering at Mars Hill ... a philosophical highplace of debate and intellect ... in sharing with these people he reveals his commission ... the 'why' of what he did ...

“Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about."
It was all about making the Unknown known ...

In the midst of the traveling and talking and listening and getting beat-up and ship-wrecked he knew the 'why' of it all.

I fill my days with prayer and e.mails and coffee appointments and reading and hanging out with students and projects and .... on and on it goes ...

But I know why I do it ... and that changes everything.

I love the line that Jesus speaks in Mark 1.35 when asked what he'd be up to for the day ... "Let's go to the rest of the villages so I can preach there also. This is why I have come." When we know the why it changes everything ...

So why do you do what you do??

Turn your ear
To Heaven and hear
The noise inside
The sound of angels
The sound of angel's songs
And all this for a King
We could join and sing
"All to Christ the King!"

How constant
How divine
This song of ours will rise
Oh, how constant
How divine
This love of ours will rise
Will rise...

CHORUS:
O praise Him!
O praise Him!
He is Holy!
He is Holy, yeah!

Turn your gaze
To Heaven and raise
A joyous noise
Oh, the sound of salvation come
The sound of rescued ones
And all this for a king
Angles join to sing
"All for Christ the King!"

(Oh Praise Him, David Crowder)
